How Girls Can Make a Difference
“We exist for girls as they are… so they imagine the women they can become.” This is what we do in our girls-only camp at Camp Kupugani. Female empowerment is an intentional incorporation into all things Kupugani. It is important to be strong women and be proud of who we are as individuals and also as a unified group.
Being female is not always the easiest thing. Thankfully, American society has progressed, making us a more equal force to men. Unfortunately, not all women enjoy a similar opportunity. There are women all around the world who are limited within their specific cultures and societies. They are precluded from voting, being educated, and sometimes even from walking through streets on their own.
As women, we can empower ourselves to make a difference. This recent article recaps an interview with a representative from an organization called Girl Up!, an organization where young girls and women encourage each other to use their mighty voices for change.
There are so many organizations, local and global, that are female-oriented and focus on topics ranging from internal self-confidence to effecting external political changes. Another great organization is called Girl Talk!, where young women serve as role models to girls, sharing their challenges and how they overcome them. Women may not be viewed as powerful in every country in the world yet, but we certainly fight to make a difference. How will you choose to make a difference in the lives of women next door and around the world?
