Kupugani Declaration of Empowerment
The first week of our girls second session is coming to a close. This week has been filled with river floats, dam jumping, volleyball and other camptivities. In a counselor vs. camper volleyball game, the counselors prevailed, but the campers have an opportunity to show us up on Saturday at the annual camper vs. counselor soccer game!
In teams, the girls have been progressing individually and as a group. They are growing into even more independent and strong women. Today at lunch one of our teams shared an amazing Declaration of Empowerment that encompasses the ideals we try to teach here at Kupugani. It has been great to see the girls evolve over the last week and we cannot wait to see what is in store for the next week of camp.
The Las Mujeres Declaration of Empowerment
I am a girl, I am fast, I am furious, and I am unique.
You can categorize me, but I defy every label.
I am beautiful, and if you try to stomp on my confidence,
I will walk away from your ignorance.
I have a strong voice that cannot be silenced.
I’m powerful and I know it and you can’t change that fact.
You can push me down but I’ll still rise.
I don’t need to look in the mirror to know I’m beautiful.
I don’t need to be pretty to do amazing things.
We are not defined by anyone but ourselves.
I dictate my destiny not by the size of my waist,
but by the strength of my voice.
Your opinion is just words rearranged and my opinion is a statement.
You can’t take my bravery away.
Your harsh words and opinions are your problem, not mine.
The hurtful words you say to me make me realize the person I can be.
The harder I try being someone else, the less I realize I can be myself.
Las Mujeres is our name, and that cannot be changed.
