First Full Day of Girls Camp
Today was an incredible day at camp, filled with activities and bonding moments that left everyone feeling connected and energized. The day kicked off for some campers with an early bird nature walk. The crisp morning air and the sounds of birds chirping set a peaceful tone for the day.
Morning Moments
Before breakfast, we gathered as a community to introduce our morning song, “Ain’t Nothing Wrong With Me.” The atmosphere was uplifting as everyone sang along. We also shared a powerful quote from Maya Angelou: “Each one of us has lived through some devastation, some loneliness, some weather superstorm or spiritual superstorm. When we look at each other we must say, I understand. I understand how you feel because I have been there myself. We must support each other and empathize with each other because each of us is more alike than we are unalike.” This quote set the tone for the day, reminding us of the importance of empathy and support. After the song and quote, we headed to breakfast, where Miss Natasha’s pancakes (and turkey sausages) were a big hit.
Building Bonds and Team Spirit
After breakfast, it was time for team-building activities. We started with a check-in and a six-minute interview to help everyone get to know each other better. Activities like “If you really knew me,” “Group Agreements,” “Two Truths and a Lie,” and a team cheer followed. These exercises fostered trust and camaraderie among the campers. After a fun-filled session of All Camp Gaga, we enjoyed a hearty lunch of Sloppy Janes at noon.
Afternoon Adventures
Post-lunch, we had a full camp siesta, giving everyone a chance to rest and recharge. The afternoon was packed with swim evaluations and nurse checks. While waiting, campers played name games and engaged in conversation starter questions.
Evening Activities and Reflections
Dinner featured delicious bratwursts and sauerkraut (for German Cuisine Night), followed by evening activities. We watched an inspiring video on “handling hard well”, and played Diversity Bingo. We wrapped up the evening by announcing tomorrow’s theme: Wear Your Diversity Day. The goodnight song brought a peaceful end to the day with everyone heading back to their cabins. The night concluded with journaling and reflection time, allowing campers to process their experiences and thoughts.
What Had Happened Was…
Today was a day of growth, fun, and connection. From early morning nature walks to evening reflections, every moment was filled with opportunities to learn and bond. As lights went out, there was a sense of accomplishment and anticipation for the days ahead.
