An Enjoyable 4th at Camp Kupugani: Thrills, Teamwork, and Tasty Treats!
Rise and Shine!
This morning, the camp came alive at 7:00 am. As the campers rubbed the sleep from their eyes, they were greeted by the aroma of Miss Natasha’s famous coffee cake wafting through the air. The day kicked off with our community gathering. The quote of the day, shared by Lone Man, reminded us all of the importance of teamwork: “I have seen that in any great undertaking it is not enough for a man to depend simply upon himself.” We then enjoyed the hearty breakfast, followed by camp chores.
Cook Out Craziness
We had a Fourth of July cookout, enjoying locally-raised and farmed beef burgers. A fun playlist provided background music as we ate outside at the picnic tables. Concluding the lunchtime festivities, one cabin counselor chosen by each cabin, Kevin, and a wild-card camper chosen for his watermelon-eating prowess, engaged in a hilarious watermelon-eating contest–no hands allowed! Sadly, Kevin finished second last, with some watermelon pieces in his nose.
Olympic-Sized Fun
The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the Kupugani Olympics. After a restful siesta, the campers dove headfirst into an afternoon of exhilarating activities. From the slippery fun of the giant slip-and-slide to the intense competition of Gaga, the energy was electric. But that wasn’t all! The excitement continued with a muddy tug-of-war, dam jumping, and even a paddle-less canoe race and sinking their favorite counselors! It was a day filled with laughter, teamwork, and unforgettable memories.
Evening Reflections and Looking Ahead
As the sun began to go down, the campers gathered for a special Returner’s Ceremony on Top Field, after which the 3+year returners went to a local park to enjoy a special returners’ party. Meanwhile, dinner at camp was a delicious spread of enchiladas, during which the campers penned thoughtful thank-you letters. The evening ended with a spirited Sing Off and a game of Rainbow Tag. Before lights out, the campers settled into their cabins for a time of reflection and journaling, with some sharing their life stories. Meanwhile, the older campers enjoyed a refreshing night swim under the stars.
A Day to Remember
Today at Camp Kupugani was a whirlwind of activities, fostering teamwork, creativity, and personal growth. From the morning’s motivational quote to the evening’s reflective moments, every aspect of the day was designed to challenge and inspire our campers. As we look forward to tomorrow’s Pajama Day theme, we can’t help but wonder: what exciting adventures and valuable lessons will tomorrow bring for our young campers?
