Blended Day 8: Kupugani Adventures Continue
Morning Rituals and Social Awareness
The day started early at our summer camp, with campers waking up at 7:00 am for cabin clean-up. As the sun rose, the excitement in the air was palpable. By 8:00 am, everyone gathered for the community meeting, where we shared an inspiring quote from Herman Melville. It reminded us of our interconnectedness and set the tone for the day’s theme: social awareness and activism.
Breakfast was a delicious affair with pancakes and blueberries. After that, campers dispersed for their daily chores. The morning’s module focused on empowerment, featuring activities like “Awareness of our Bias” and “Willow in the Wind.” These exercises helped the children understand different perspectives and build trust within their groups. Afterward, they enjoyed some free time during recess before heading to lunch.
Afternoon Activities and Personal Growth
The afternoon was packed with exciting camptivities. Some kids participated in bench building, while others enjoyed recreation time or took a peaceful river walk. The third group of horseback riders left for their adventure, adding to the day’s excitement. After a short break at La Tienda, the campers dove into their second round of activities. These included a social justice track, swim lessons, and a challenge hike.
As the day wound down, everyone returned to their cabins to clean up and change. Dinner was a hearty meal of chicken and rice, providing the energy needed for the evening’s activities. The highlight of the night was Zombie Tag and a campfire complete with s’mores. It was a perfect end to a day filled with learning and fun.
Reflecting on a Day Well Spent
As the campers settled into their cabins for the night, they had the opportunity to debrief about their day and share life stories. The experiences they had, from learning about social awareness to participating in team-building activities, undoubtedly left a lasting impact. As parents, don’t you wonder what amazing stories your children will bring home from their summer camp adventure?
