Queen Bee Day at Blended Two!
Hey there, camp parents! Today was an absolute blast at Camp Kupugani. Our campers experienced a unique and empowering day as we celebrated Queen Bee Day. To draw attention to systemic biases and discrimination against women and girls, today’s activities flipped the script by giving women and girls (“queen bees”) uninterrupted authority and prioritization. Ground rules included queen bees speaking first and without interruption, leading all teams and conversations, and receiving first service in meals and activities. Nonbinary individuals were also acknowledged and given priority after the queen bees, with space for discussing their unique struggles in a cis-normative society.
The day kicked off bright and early at 7:00 am with our usual wake-up call and cabin clean-up. After that, we gathered for our community circle, where we shared an inspiring quote by Brene Brown about setting boundaries and self-love. This set the tone for the day’s activities, which were all about empowerment and leadership, in addition to the Queen Bee focus.
Activities and Adventures
Following a delicious breakfast of English muffins (“muffins all the way from England!”), our campers dove into a variety of engaging activities. They participated in team-building exercises like Zip Zap Zop and Hula Hoop Pass, which not only strengthened their bonds but also honed their communication skills. The afternoon was filled with exciting camptivities, including horseback riding, challenge hikes, and lake play. Some lucky campers even got to try their hand at crate stacking – talk about a balancing act! All campers then gathered for a dinner of Miss Natasha’s delicious barbeque chicken and potato salad. As the day wound down, we capped off the evening with an exhilarating game of Capture the Flag. It was heartwarming to see the camaraderie and team spirit on display throughout these activities.
Wrapping Up and Looking Ahead
As we settled in for the night, the cabins held appreciation circles, giving everyone a chance to reflect on the day and express gratitude for their fellow campers and counselors. The senior campers were treated to a special spa night, a well-deserved reward for their camp leadership. Looking ahead, we’re all excited about tomorrow’s theme day: Dress like a book character! It’s sure to be another unforgettable day at Camp Kupugani. What amazing memories will your child create tomorrow, and how will these experiences shape their growth and confidence for years to come?
