A Wednesday in the Life of Blended Two
Hey there, camp parents! Today was another exciting day at our summer camp, and we wanted to share some highlights. Our campers had a blast, and the energy was contagious. Let’s dive into what made today so special.
Morning Madness and Mindfulness
The day kicked off bright and early with our Early Bird activity. Bella led an arts and crafts session that got the creative juices flowing. After that, we gathered for our Morning Circle. Today’s quote was all about kindness, reminding us to be kind even during competition. We also addressed some issues with our 9-square game, emphasizing the importance of good sportsmanship. Then, it was time for breakfast which was some of Miss Natasha’s delicious French toast and turkey sausage! As usual, camp chores followed–with the kids working together to keep our camp clean and tidy. The balance of the morning had fun team activities and the first “recess” of the session–with the campers enjoying some unstructured (but supervised) time on the top field.
Afternoon Adventures
After lunch, when the campers tucked into some amazing pulled pork and mac and cheese, more fun ensued. Our campers split into groups for various activities. Some went horseback riding, while others enjoyed basketball, canoeing, and arts and crafts. The pool was a popular spot, as always. We even had a tie-dye session that produced some seriously groovy shirts! Later in the afternoon, we switched things up with archery, crate stacking, and sand volleyball. It was amazing to see the kids challenging themselves and trying new things.
Wrapping Up the Day
As the sun began to set, we gathered for dinner which was some amazing sweet and sour chicken and prepared for our evening activity. Tonight’s main event was the discussion of Jane Elliot’s “Brown Eyes Blue Eyes,” experiment which piqued the campers’ interests, followed by a discussion of discrimination back then and today. After the campers went back to their cabins, they had an important debrief session. We discussed how well we’re following our cabin contracts and resolved any conflicts that had come up. It was a great opportunity for the kids to practice their communication skills.
Today was filled with laughter, learning, and lots of fun. We can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings, especially with our 14 and 15-year-olds taking charge of running the camp. It’s sure to be an interesting day! As we tuck in for the night, we’re left wondering: what amazing memories will your children make tomorrow?
