Not the End
“The world is round so that friendship may encircle it.” – Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
Each day at Kupugani begins with a quote. It seemed only fitting to end our “camp recap” blog entries with a quote.
Over in the prior two weeks, our Kupugani boys learned many lessons during various Teams Activities and Evening Programs. Among those lessons were topics of diversity, leadership, conflict resolution, self-expression, creativity, and the like. We role model and teach the message and incorporate the acts of being world changers, but what makes someone a world changer? How do they get to that level? Many people hear success stories that express the importance of independence and the reliance on only oneself. Yet is that truly success if you do it only on your own? In our belief, the true success stories are of those who made their dreams come true because of those special people who supported and encouraged them to do things others deemed impossible. Those special people are often described as mentors or friends. We cannot be a mentor to someone without being a friend first. It is safe to say each camper made at least two friends here while at camp whom they will hopefully keep for a lifetime, and they have all learned lessons at camp to help them for a lifetime. They helped each other grow and change as well as allowing each other to be themselves in every way. The friendships made here at Camp Kupugani are multicultural, multi-belief, and across multiple age groups–all of which are huge stepping stones to the wonderful world changers they are destined to become. We will miss the hustle and bustle of our Kupugani boys these last two weeks, and the Kupugani girls before them. The campers will forever stay in our hearts.
