Even though it’s winter, it’s not too early to start planning for summer. If you’re the parent of a prospective first time camper, consider your goals for your child. Summer is a great time for her (or him) to try new things. Whatever new experience you’d love to introduce, be sure that s/he is involved in choosing a program.
That way s/he keeps a sense of control, which helps to ward off any transition issues if s/he’s going off to a sleepaway camp.
As a good parent, you also want to make sure that you push your child a little bit. A huge part of the growth of campers at Camp Kupugani comes from overcoming things with which they first may have been apprehensive–be it climbing the rock wall, interacting in their cabin or team with a variety of different campers, jumping off the dam, or just becoming more comfortable with the beautiful, natural environment. As a parent you want to be aware of ways to encourage your child’s growth while making her or him comfortable in that pursuit.
And be sure to do your homework. Once you’ve narrowed down your choices to those that fit your needs and budget, talk to other parents about what programs have worked for their children, or ask the camp director for parent references.
Our parents love to talk about our program. From our past twelve years of parent surveys, 99% of respondents were satisfied with their child’s Camp Kupugani experience, and would recommend our camp to friends.
