Today was full of fun between a session of Free to Learn, Camptivities, and an evening of Blob Tag, Sand Volleyball and 9 Square in the Air! The boys definitely keep us going! Tomorrow is the infamous counselor vs. camper All Camp Soccer Game…. WHO WILL WIN?!?!?!?!
Tonight we held our Annual Hunger Banquet. This is an experiential learning activity to develop a deeper understanding of the daily challenges faced by those living in poverty. Some of us have lived it firsthand. Others of us have only passed it on the street. How closely you have seen poverty, touched it, experienced it, colors your perception of what it is like to actually live in poverty. Day two of camp featured a bit more activities and a few less jitters. Today was a big day for getting to know one another through Name Games, Interviews and Diversity Show & Tell. A day like today reminded me that camp is more than just a chance to retreat from the rigors of the “real world,” to have some mindless fun and excitement, and to make new friends and reconnect with old ones. Camp is a place in which campers can become someone new every single day.
Our campers enjoyed a lovely Monday full of team building initiatives, camptivities such as Cooking with Tash, and then ended the evening with Rainbow Tag! With the lovely Midwestern sky as the backdrop to Rainbow Tag, campers tried to find each paint color before the person who was “It” washed off all of their paint!! Such a lovely day with an early bedtime to get up for another great day at Kupugani!
