A Great First Day with the Girls!
Today we welcomed our wonderful campers through a drive-through check in. They checked in meds and unloaded their luggage. After the girls said goodbye to their families, we took them to their cabins to get settled in. There, they figured out their sleeping arrangements and met their new cabin mates. They spent some time there waiting for everyone to arrive, playing name games and getting familiar with each other. After all of the campers arrived and settled in, we met at Top Field for the first time as a whole camp! We formed a big circle, introduced ourselves, and went over the 6 Kupugani core values. We also explained some general camp rules and gave an overview of what to expect over the next couple of weeks.
After we were done on Top Field, we headed to the dining hall for dinner with our cabin mates. After we finished eating and cleaning up, we returned to Top Field for some large group games like Ro Sham Bo Evolution and Ship Island. The campers then headed back to their cabins to change and get ready for our first campfire. At the campfire, we went over what each of the cabin’s names meant, set goals for the session at camp, and sang a few of our camp songs. We also had our special key log ceremony. Each camper was given a stick to represent a goal/wish for camp. We all went around and shared what we wanted to take from camp, throwing the stick in the fire to represent the promise we made ourselves. After a moment of reflection, we dismissed the campers with our Goodnight Song and headed back to our cabins for lights out. What a great first day!
