How to Solve the Top 10 Parenting Problems

Camp Kupugani is our Midwest summer camp offering two-week sessions for children ages 7-15. We recognize that even the best of parents and families can struggle sometimes. We found this article from Mom Junction describing the top 10 parenting problems and solutions. You can read the whole piece here or check out our summary below.

  • Frequent Tantrums?
      • When they are in this mode, they don’t see clearly.
      • Don’t lose your cool.
      • Allow your child time.
  • Children Who Do Not “Obey”
      • This can often be your children trying to assert their importance.
      • Don’t try to curb your child’s autonomy.
      • Don’t tolerate their bad behavior.
      • Your calmness can help soothe them.
  • Unmanageable Sibling Rivalry? (check out our blog devoted to this topic here)
      • Separate them when needed.
      • Don’t try and be the judge.
  • Children Telling Little Lies
      • Sometimes they don’t know they are lying.
      • Explain the dangers of lying rather than proving them wrong.
  • Aggressive And Violent Attitude
      • Try to find out the reasons behind their behavior.
      • “Therapy” should not be a bad word.
      • Often they have a valid reason behind their behavior.
  • Complaining And Whining Kids
      • Don’t ignore their whining.
      • This is often done to gain attention.
      • Talking often to your children can curb this.
  • Resistance During Studies
      • If they are truly uninterested, find out their true interests.
      • Pressuring your child to study rarely turns out as desired.
  • Poor Eating Habits
      • Who doesn’t love junk food?
      • Explain the consequences of eating only junk.
      • Help them get involved in the cooking process.
  • Addiction To Gadgets (read our blog about this here)
      • Addiction to gadgets is becoming more prevalent.
      • Control the hours they spend on technology.
  • Shyness and Lack of Confidence
    • Seek to understand your child’s personality.
    • Don’t force mixing with others.
    • Let your child be themselves.

She absolutely loves the camp, the staff, and all the friends she makes there. I consider Kupugani to be a big influence in helping her grow and expand her mind each summer.
