3 Ways to Maximize Your Resilience

These days, it is especially important to continue hanging in there, especially given many life challenges. At our Midwest summer camp, we emphasize the importance of resilience in character building. The good folks at Barking Up the Wrong Tree have a recent post regarding fostering resilience. Check out the full article at this link, or the excerpt below.

These are the 3 things the most resilient people do every day:

  • Goals: Have some. Think about the key areas of your life and finish the sentence, “I want…” Then get specific. Oh, and no “dead person goals.”
  • Agency: Switch from “I want..” to “I choose…” And remind yourself of relevant past success to increase that feeling of progress.
  • Pathways: Play your “mental movie.” Focus on the middle of your journey. Anticipate obstacles and find multiple routes to overcome them. When plans fail, remember: You’re not bad; the plan was bad. So improve it.

Everyone…was just so, so personable, kind, and the kind of person I want
my [child] looking up to and spending time with.

[My daughter’s] face lights up when she speaks about camp, it’s a priceless experience.

I have never come in contact with such a wonderful group of people at a camp before. Everyone did an outstanding job, the camp was so organized, it was unbelievable.

She absolutely loves the camp, the staff, and all the friends she makes there. I consider Kupugani to be a big influence in helping her grow and expand her mind each summer.
